Temperature inversion in Wester Ross from the summit of Sgurr Ban

Sgurr Ban is compact mountain 1½ km north of Mullach Coire Mhic Fhearchair in the eastern part of the Fisherfield Forest. The mountain has steep craggy slopes on the south, north as west and the upper part & summit is covered with quartzite boulders giving it a white looking effect hence the name. The eastern slops are quite moderate

Carn Ban is one of Carn Dearg (Monadh Liath)'s northern tops that lie its high level plateau which is approximately 7km long. Its summit point (942 metres) is marked with a large cairn. There is also another northern top on Carn Dearg (Monadh Liath) which is situated to the north east of Carn Ban and is called Carn Ballach.

The top is usually climbed when traversing Carn Dearg (Monadh Liath).
