Mountain Description for An Coileachan

An Coileachan is a munro in Scotand and is located in the area Loch Maree to Loch Broom as defined by SMC

(and lies in region known as The Fannaichs )

An Coileachan stands on the south eastern end of The Fannaich Ridge and appears impressive (particually Garbh Choire Mor) when viewed from Loch Fannich on its southern side. The best feature of An Coileachan is "Garbh Choire Mor" an east facing craggy corrie situated on a south-eastern spur & rising above the Loch Fannaich dam. In general apart from Garbh Choire Mor slopes are generally easy on it south & west sides with moderate slopes with rocky outcrops on the north & eastern sides. The summit is marked with a neatly constructed cairn.

On An Coileachan's north west lies Meall Gorm also of munro satus connected by a broad north western ridge dropping down to Bealach Ban (775m) and over a unamed top (922m) which is usually climbed on the same outing.

Usual access is along a path from Fannaich Lodge on the south where An Coileachan is easily accessible. However, access is gained from the north-east via the A835 on the north west of Loch Glascarnoch which gives a more varied days outing on the hills combining other munros on the ridge without having to retrace ones steps.
