Details for Carn nan Gabhar
Carn nan Gabhar is the highest of the three mountains of the Beinn a'Ghlo massif, and also the most remote lying about 12km to the northeast of Blair Atholl as the crow flies.
It takes the shape of an elongated ridge from north-north-east to south-south-west with steeps slopes on both sides of the ridge. On the southern west the summit ridge connects to Airgions Beinn and also drops down to a bealach via a short western spur that connects to the munro Braigh Coire Chruinn-Bhalgain<. The mountain has patches of grey scree amongst grass, while heather grows quite profusely on the lower slopes and gives the hill a colourful skirt when in bloom in Summer.
Usual access is via the Bealach an Fhiodha when climbed with the 2 other munros (Carn Liath & Braigh Coire Chruinn-Bhalgain) as there is little to gained climbing this munro on it's own. Access is also via the top Airgiod Beinn which leads down over a fairly rocky ridge into Shinagag where you reach a prominent path. More effort is required to reach this munro from Glen Tilt or Glen Fearnach.
Càrn nan Gabhar has a panorama that includes the Cairngorms< to the north , the Glen Shee< hills to the east and an aerial view down into Glen Loch below.
The number of registered munro-madness users who have climbed Carn nan Gabhar is Twenty-Nine
