Details for Carn nan Gobhar [Loch Mullardoch]

Càrn nan Gobhar (Mullardoch) stands on the eastern end of 4 munros known as “The Mullardochs” which rise between Loch Mullardoch and Loch Monar. Càrn nan Gobhar is also the smallest on the range so is slightly dwarfed by the other 3 hills. It has a classical pyramid appearance as it's the meeting of 3 main grassy ridges.

The first ridge on the northeast is about 2km and leads to a “Top” called Creag Dubh (946m) which is also the most eastly point on the long ridge. The 2nd ridge heads south easterly over the small top of Mullach na Moille (761m) then twists round giving access to a path by the Allt Mullardoch into Glen Cannich on the eastern banks of Loch Mullardoch. The north western ridge connects to a bigger munro Sgurr na Lapaich via Bealach na Cloiche Duibhe (796 m).

The best feature of Càrn nan Gobhar is the Corrie of the Fairies (Coire an t-Sith) on it's eastern flanks which decends to Loch Mullardoch by a well constructed stalkers path.

The usual ascent of Càrn nan Gobhar is from Glen Cannich parking at the end of the road and along the northern bank of Loch Mullardoch and then climb steeply up the south-eastern ridge over the top Mullach na Moille then onto the summit. The hill can also be combined with Sgurr na Lapaich which most walkers do. Fitter walkers also include the western section of “The Mullardochs” which include the other 2 munros (An Riabhachan & An Socach [Loch Mullardoch]
