The Ben Nevis Horseshoe Circuit
This is a long hard route taking you around the Ben Nevis horseshoe to reach the highest peak in the UK and take in Carn Mor Dearg munro number 9 on the way. The route is a refreshing change if you've only climbed the tallest mountain by the Ben Nevis Tourist Route as it's away from the crowds at least until you reach the summit. The path vanishes on the higher rocky slopes and navigation can be problematic.
This route does true justice to Britains highest peak where the tourist route fails.
Ben Nevis - Tourist Route
Ben Nevis is Britain's highest mountain and this route is the busiest. The climb is somewhat tedious as the path zigzags round the shoulder of Meall an t-Suidhe (711 metres) upto the psychological half-way point near Lochan Meall an t-Suidhe.
The path then continues zigzagging eight times to the summit. The path vanishes on the higher rocky slopes and navigation can be problematic.
Ben Vorlich is a steep sided mountain much like it's neighbour Ben Vane. Follow the road upto Loch Sloy and steep ascent up grassy slopes returning via the long southeast ridge which is a steep descent.
A nice circular walk taking in Beinn Narnain and Beinn Ime which are the highest hills of the Arrochar Alps.
Beinn Narnain's rocky form may not attract in quite the same way as it's smaller neighbour (The Cobbler) but is a majestic mountain and has rugged upper features which are well concealed as you approach from the southeast.
They can be easily bagged in one easy day from Arrochar village.
Sgurr nan Clach Geala, Sgurr Breac, A' Chailleach, Meall a'Chrasgaidh & Sgurr nan Each
The main, western range of the Fannichs is a magnificent ridge-walk taking in five Munros.
The Grey Corries
This route takes in The Grey Corries which is a very long ridge that extends east from the Aonoch Mor massive which includes three munros and nine Munro "Tops" giving a superb days walking. This route is a very long days outing with a long walk in and out. However, the drops between alot of the tops on the whole aren't large.
Once on the ridge there are good view of The Aonachs, Ben Nevis and pretty much every other hill in the area.
This mountain range is arguably the most impressive on mainland UK offering plenty of coastal views to enhance any expedition.
The spectacular eastern corries can even be appreciated from the A832 destination road
White Mounth Munros
This route covers the 2 munros Carn an t-Sagairt More & Carn a'Choire Bhoidheach which are to the east of Lochnagar on the Balmoral Estate. Starting from Auchallater Farm (A93 Road Glen Clunie) follow the private road up into Glen Callater then once at the lodge take the path uphill (south-east). Traverse the munros once on the high mountain plateau & return back down Glen Callater.
Probably the most noticeable point of the route is the dramatic 1093m point called The Stuic (meaning Projecting Hill) which is a rocky buttress & minor summit to the north of Carn a'Coire Boidheach.
Dark Lochnagar
This is a route taking in the munro Lochnagar which is perhaps the finest mountain in the eastern highlands. It's the highest munro of the Mounth plateau and it's finest feature are the spectacular northern corries which are best viewed from Meikle Pap with a little detour from the route below.
The route is located entirely in the Balmoral Estate the summer home of the Royal Family. At the foot of Lochnagar lies Loch Muick, where Queen Victoria had a 'secret' cottage.
A fairly easy route over 2 munros on the eastern part of the extensive White Mounth plateau. Starting from the car park follow a good track along the northern side of Loch Muick then up a Glen to Dubh Lochan. Continuing up onto high level plateau to climb the 2 munros & top heading down on a high level track that winds back down to Spittal of Glenmuick.
