Munro Routes

Easy route up scotlands most southern Munro on a wide well trodden path most of the ascent. This is a popular route due the Ben Lomond's close proximity to Glasgow. The route of ascent starts from the car park just beyond the Rowardennan Hotel onto grassy slopes once through forestry area. Descent via the Ptarmigan ridge from Ben Lomond back to Rowardennan is mainly rough grass after the initial rocky descent down a ridge off the top which is steep. The route gets slightly steeper towards the end, but offers excellent view of some waterfalls lower down.

The high lite of Ben Lomond has to be the views of the Arrochar Alps on the west site as well as Loch Lomond without question.

Ben Macdui is now often tackled from the north with Cairn Gorm as shown here due to the ski centre car park giving a 650 metre starting point. This is probably the easiest route of ascent (distance wise) starting from the Coire Cas car park at the foot of Cairngorm Ski Centre by way of a path that leads up over slowly rising moorland. A fairly easy route on the edge of the western Cairngorms over 3 tops upto the munro Sgor Gaoith from Glen Feshie. It's reached on a substantial path through forestry plantations over rough ground over the tops where munro is reached. Ascent is on quite a newly constructed path making life easy.

There are excellent views if you get a clear day over to Braeriach on the east.

Ben Nevis is Britain's highest mountain and this route is the busiest. The climb is somewhat tedious as the path zigzags round the shoulder of Meall an t-Suidhe (711 metres) upto the psychological half-way point near Lochan Meall an t-Suidhe.

The path then continues zigzagging eight times to the summit. The path vanishes on the higher rocky slopes and navigation can be problematic.

Ben Vorlich is a steep sided mountain much like it's neighbour Ben Vane. Follow the road upto Loch Sloy and steep ascent up grassy slopes returning via the long southeast ridge which is a steep descent.

The south of The Cuillin ridge which takes in the two munros Sgurr Dubh Mor & Sgurr nan Eag which is the most southern peak. The peaks are reached from Glen Brittle via a rough path upto Coire' a' Grunnda which is one of Scotland's fines corries.

The part between Sgurr Dubh na Da Bheinn and Sgurr Dubh Mor is the trickiest part and is steep although not particular exposed but a head for heights is required.

Sgurr nan Gillean is perhaps the most recognised and renowned peak in The Cuillin range of mountains on the Isle of Skye. Sgurr nan Gillean is the mountain nearest to Sligachan and forms impressive triangular profile rising behind the Sligachan hotel where the route starts.
This is the most popular route of ascent known as the tourist route which follows a path leading south from the Dunvegan Road leading to a footbrige which crosses the Allt Dearg Mor and then Allt Dearg Beag. The route continues up in to the Coire Rhiabhach where you climb high above a tiny lochan onto the main ridge.

The final sections along the ridge from the head of the corrie onto the summit are extremely exposed, and call for scrambling ability and a very good head for heights indeed.

Good traverse the two hills Aonach Beag & Aonach Mor generally referred to as The Aonachs. This is a moderate route starting from Glen Nevis on the south through the gorge and then steep ascent directly up Aonach Beag's southern ridge onto summit. Aonach Mor can then be reached via a bealach on the north. To descend back into Glen Nevis retrace southern ridge keeping near to the western crags.

The peak Aonach Mor as good views on the west over to Ben Nevis & Carn mor Dearg.

Good traverse the two hills Aonach Beag & Aonach Mor generally referred to as The Aonachs. This is a moderate route starting from Glen Nevis on the south through the gorge and then steep ascent, decent over boggy ground up onto a stony ridge between the hills. This route also takes in 2 tops on the eastern section of the ridge.

The top Sgurr a'Bhuic on the eastern end of the ridge has good views on a clear day across to the The Grey Corries on the east and The Mamores to the south. The peak Aonach Mor as good views on the west over to Ben Nevis & Carn mor Dearg.

The approach from Kinlochleven involves firstly ascending Stob Coire a' Chàirn by the stalkers' path up Coire na Ba before continuing to An Gearanach giving an out and back trip of 14 kilometres. It's quite a long approach with no difficulties as there's a good stalker path all the way up.

An Gearanach from Glen Nevis has a shorter approach but just covers a single munro.
